Rope Services Direct offer a range of hand spliced fibre rope slings. There are a large variety of diameters on offer to suit a range of applications. Our hand splicing is performed by highly skilled, fully qualified personnel. They have many years of experience in the wire rope industry. Alongside our fibre rope slings we also manufacture other types of lifting slings such as wire rope slings and web slings.
Types Of Fibre Rope Slings
Splices can be formed around a thimble eye to create a firmer and stronger anchor point. Alternatively soft eyes and can work well with a variety of fittings such as a hook. We are also able to produce endless fibre rope slings where the two ends are hand spliced into each other to form a continual loop.
Rope slings can be made from a number of materials suitable for different purposes.
Polyester
Polyester rope slings come in a range of diameters up to around 16mm. This is a man-made fibre and is very strong, its strength will not be lost if it becomes wet. Polyester rope has very little stretch qualities so it will not fair well if shock loaded. With good ultra-violet light resistance as well as mildew, chemical and oil resistance these fibre rope slings are ideal for outdoor applications.
Polypropylene
Polypropylene fibre rope slings are available in diameters up to 40mm and are a man-made fibre rope. This rope is lightweight and flexible and has good resistance to oils, acids and chemicals. They do however have much less UV resistance than polyester fibre rope slings, unless a UV stabilizer is added. Polyprop rope slings will not shrink and are commonly used in water based industries such as boating and water sports due to its buoyancy.
Nylon
Nylon fibre rope slings are man-made from super heat treated chemicals. Rope Services Direct can supply these in diameters up to 16mm. This rope has a little stretch so can absorb some shock loading. It is resistant to UV rays and chemicals. Nylon fibre rope slings are super strong and are commonly used for lifting, fishing and climbing applications.
Sisal
Sisal fibre rope slings come in diameters up to 24mm. This is a naturally occurring fibre with very good stretch properties, it is also resistant to salt water. These fibre rope slings are used in marine, agriculture and general industrial applications.

Fibre Rope – Safe Handling Do’s & Don’ts
All kinds of fibre ropes need certain care taken when handling them. Especially natural fibre ropes like sisal for example as they can be quite rough. Fibres could also pierce or cut the skin easily. Man-made fibre ropes are much smoother to handle. However can easily cause rope burns to the skin if not handled in the correct manner. Due to these facts it is often recommended to wear tough protective gloves to protect against these potential hazards.
Fibre ropes can also be easily damaged if not handled correctly. So to prolong the lifespan of your fibre ropes we have put together some basic but fundamental do’s and don’ts to follow. These will help prevent unnecessary damage to the rope.
DO;
Wear suitable protection
Work out any excessive twisting over the end of the rope
Wash down in cold running water if the rope comes into contact with oils, chemicals or fumes
Cover metal parts and susceptible chaffing/abrasion points (usually leather, canvas or plastic are used)
DON’T;
Haul/drag rope over rough or sharp objects
Over-expose to heat and sunlight, this can degrade fibre ropes unless a stabiliser has been added
Allow excessive turn and kinks to develop, this will cause looping and distort fibres and so loss of strength will occur
Combine ropes with different lays
Pull rope over the top of a reel, always draw from underneath, or anti-clockwise
Allow contact with corrosive substances
Always get ALL your lifting equipment thoroughly inspected.
